questions on Nutrition Therapy

  • What is the In-body Scan (body composition testing)?

The In-Body scan uses bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) that utilizes a combination of low- and high-level frequencies that are sent through the water in the body via contact with electrodes to measure impedance. The impedance is used to determine total body water (TBW), which can then be used to derive your fat-free mass and body fat.

  • What Is RMR (resting metabolic rate)?

RMR or resting metabolic rate, will tell us how much energy or calories your body uses to perform it’s basic daily functions like breathing, organ function, thermoregulation, etc. while it is at rest. This provides us with a base of how much energy your body needs to survive. With other external factors like how much you exercise, we can then provide a better estimate of your energy needs based on your health goals.

  • Will my insurance cover Nutrition Therapy?

We accept insurance as well as HSA/FSA funds. Insurance coverage varies. Most plans have preventative nutrition benefits and medical nutrition therapy benefits. Oftentimes, this means your visits will be covered at 100% and you will have unlimited visits! We will verify your benefits for you before your first appointment.

  • What is Medical Nutrition Therapy?

Medical Nutrition Therapy or (MNT), is nutritional diagnostic therapy, and counseling services provided by a registered dietitian to prevent and manage disease. MNT involves in-depth individualized nutrition assessment using the Nutrition Care Process to manage disease.

  • Who is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist?

Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) are food and nutrition experts who have completed a minimum of a bachelor’s degree at a US regionally accredited university or college and course work accredited or approved by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. They are also required to complete an ACEND-accredited supervised practice program at a health-care facility, community agency, and foodservice corporation. Lastly, they must also pass a national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). RDN’s are required to complete continuing professional educational requirements to maintain registration as well.

  • Who is a candidate for Nutrition Therapy?

Anyone looking to optimize their health through preventative care, improve performance, manage chronic illnesses, manage weight, or someone who just needs guidance and accountability to make lifestyle changes.

Before reaching out to Krista at BPI, I tried everything to feel and look better. I knew nutrition was a critical component of my goals, yet I didn’t seek help…I hit a low point in my life once I crossed the scale at 236. I was exercising, I was eating well (so I thought) but I couldn’t get the weight to come down… I work out at BPI and knew Krista worked there…. I knew she was a dietitian, but I just couldn’t bring myself to ask for help…I have dropped over 25 pounds since seeking her professional guidance. I only have six more pounds to go to my goal, and glad that I made the leap… Krista can help motivate, provide guidance, or even be a good person to listen when you need to vent…We celebrated each win, we developed the strategy that works well for me… I wish I didn’t wait so long to make an appointment.

I am over "50" and needed guidance on how to adapt to my changing body. I went and saw Krista at BioPerformance Insitute about nutrition to see what I could do to lose weight and feel good, little did I know what all a Registered Dietitian does for you…She worked within my lifestyle choices and helped me come up with some great plans to help me lose weight. I have never felt like I am on a diet, and I am losing weight. I am now down 25lbs in 4 months! I was super thrilled when I found out my insurance covers it…Thank you Krista for showing me how to live my best life!

I came to Krista so wrapped up in diet culture. I didn’t know what to eat any more… Krista has completely changed the way I look at food…While working with Krista I learned about intuitive eating… She helped reshape my mindset on how to listen to my body when it comes to eating…. While seeing Krista she recommended supplements that were right for me and performed tests to learn more about how my body works. She didn’t only focus on what food I was putting into my body, but she addressed sleep, exercise, stress, and my overall health…Overall, it was a great experience, and I now have the confidence to live my daily life feeling great about my lifestyle and not feeling guilty all thanks to the help from Krista!
